When December comes around my family starts to look forward to our yearly pilgrimage to Salt Lake City to take in all the lights, sights, and occasionally some food. The Christmas lights at Temple Square are simply amazing. No matter your faith the true meaning of Christmas can be felt. Be prepared for a few lines, every time we go it’s always crowded. Parking is also hard to find but free spots can be found if you are creative. Visit the Temple Square site for details.
Our favorite spot for lights in Salt Lake is Christmas Street. Christmas Street is found on Glen Arbor Street in Salt Lake. Residents on Glen Arbor bond together in the Christmas spirit and put on an amazing light display. Each house on the street is linked with lights. Each home has a slightly different theme and they are all really enjoyable. Here is a link to the Google Map.
If you’re not up for the drive to Salt Lake, Utah County has an excellent collection. The Holdman family has a spectacular show that you can drive by, sometimes folks are looking for a car only experience due to younger children and the cold temperatures. A larger paid display can be found at Thanksgiving Point. Cars including SUV’s will be charged $7.00 each. Thanksgiving Point’s lights are nice although they are not our favorite.

KSL.com offers a free map to 2008 Holiday Light Displays around the valley. http://www.ksl.com/?nid=523&sid=2235126
Christmas Street is a great tradition for a family with young children who want to stay in the car and still enjoy seeing the lights.
We just visited the Holdman lights again last night. The show is truly amazing! Be sure to tune your radio to FM 99.9 for the broadcast. Also remember any donations go to the Make a Wish foundation for kids.
I agree, the Holdman lights are amazing. The closer we get to Christmas the more crowded the street will get, be sure to go early.
The Holdman light display is great. It seems to cycle through a 10-15 min song and light show. My family and I loved it. It makes our little display at home look weak, but thats ok. I look forward to next years.
