Emergency Preparedness and Food Storage

Emergency Preparedness and Food Storage

No matter what part of Utah you live in it’s always good to be prepared. Although this activity may not excite everyone we feel it’s essential.

This activity involves ensuring your family is prepared for a disaster of any type. Earthquakes, tornadoes, fires, food shortage, and hurricanes are often the ideas think about when the word disaster is mentioned. However disasters come in many shapes and sizes. The current economic conditions lead me to believe the loss of a job could be called a disaster.

Here is the activity: As a family provide answers to the following questions:

  • Do we have enough food for each member of your family?
  • Does each family member have a 72 hour kit? Are the kits mobile?
  • Having enough food is important, knowing how to use it is also important. Can you cook using your current inventory?
  • Have you considered items like diapers and wipes if your children are young?
  • Can you create fire?

These are just a few items to discuss as a family. The intention here is to start a conversation that will ensure you and your family are properly prepared for a disaster.
